Tim Cork led an unforgettable and inspirational lecture during the Real Life Series Be Employable event on January 18, 2012. With over 80+ attendees, Tim Cork held the attention of the audience with his advice and expertise on personal branding and networking. For example Mr.Cork gave tips on body gestures such as not crossing your arms when speaking with an employer as it creates a negative first impression that you are not open or approachable.

He used many personal examples from his life to make the facilitation fun and educational. Cork also explained his “Getting straight A’s”,( aptitude, attitude and action)approach and provided valuable advice on how to stay positive. He also emphasized the importance of giving, giving and giving- you can never give too much.

This was York is U’s first premiere of introducing ‘Live blogging’ where participants could ask questions or make comments through their phones by ‘tweeing’ what was inspiring to them and the results would be displayed on a screen in real-time. #yorkRLS

For me, Tim Cork really made me think about my approach and attitude in developing my own personal branding and networking Skills. He proved to me he is definitely a true “network guru”.

Here are some what attendees had to say:

“ During an interview, I have fifteen to twenty seconds to give, give ,give. ”- Kasra Amidi-Rad, Alumni Engagement Director, 2011-12

“Perfect practice makes perfect, not practice makes perfect” – Michelle Armogan, Public Relations Director, 2011-12

“ It is important to take time for yourself and connecting with people to inquire about their concerns rather than just showcasing yourself ” – Sara Gedara, Student Relations Director, 2011-12

Check out the podcast that was posted after the event and learn more about Netgiving here!
