One of the perks of being a member is that members can attend the semester pining ceremonies hosted by York is U.

Over the academic year York is U retains volunteers/members from different disciplines and clubs including international students looking to gain Canadian experience. Over the year, we collaborate and get to know each other, thus fostering sense of belonging – and let’s face it, York University is fairly large and can be quite intimidating to a vast majority of students. To have this sense of belonging is important, and York is U is here to help foster this belonging within the York community.

Fall pinning/Recognition  ceremony occurs during the month of December just before final examinations commence. What happens at this internal event? We want to show our members, those who have accumulated 16 + volunteer hours and and an orientation, that we appreciate their hard work and dedication.  Attendees receive a fun party, awards and of course their pins and celebrate the top 10 volunteers for the fall semester.  By showing members appreciation, they feel a sense of pride and accomplishment. One of York is U mandates to foster a sense of community/belonging and by hosting this event, we begin to see the bigger picture. Every year, fall pining has a different theme, so the fun never ends.

Here are the updated pictures from December 2, 2011 Fall Recognition Ceremony. This year’s fall recognition ceremony was a Hollywood cocktail party theme with DJ  Amy playing music that kept the crowd pumped up.

Winter pinning is a fairly larger event and not only because York is U gained more members. This is where members can have a semi-formal occasion, eat some dinner, dance, receive their annual awards  and pins, and lastly watch the outgoing executives  pass over their keys to the incoming executives just before the incoming executives the the solemn oath.  York is U also honors the final top ten volunteers for the year. Members can to mingle and see their constituents in a different environment  outside of the normal every day student wear. This is definitely a
memorable experience and the most looked forward to.
