York is U is on the edge of the 10th anniversary of celebrating  Multicultural Week next year in 2012 at York University. York is U collaborates a variety of world culture, music, flags, traditional clothing, parade, global village and much more. This year’s fesitval will take place March 5-9.

Multicultural week is one of the most anticipated events during the academic school year and with the 10th anniversary nearing, York is u is on the search for MCW coordinators to be a part of the execution and planning ( behind the scenes) to continue to enrich MCW tradition including the new and exciting additions to MCW 2012.

What a lot of students do not know is the extensive planning that is executed to ensuring a successful and enjoyable event for everyone. Months of planning, trouble shooting, communicating with clubs, paper work, volunteering and so forth are executed a head of time to ensure that York is U maximizes the amount of time allocated to participants It takes more than people think. The best part is that York University students are coordinating and planning an event for students.

The coordinator positions will commence on January 2, 2012 until March 15 , 2012. You will be required to contribute at least 4- 6 hours per week beginning in January 2012. This is an unforgettable although valuable experience and you will benefit from the life long skills you retain from being a coordinator.

The following positions are available for MCW coordinators:

    1. Internal Administrative Coordinator: Responsible but  not limited to preparing agenda for each meeting,  prior to meeting date(s), must attend all meeting, record minute for each meeting; schedule team meeting time slot online via Doodle; manage administrative documents for the team and other duties that arise.
      * Skills gained: Formal writing communication experience, planning and organizing, note taking skills and social skills.
      * Any Major, good written and verbal English student preferred .

 

    1. Financial Coordinator: responsible for but not limited maintaining financial records (including updating budget/expenses);  keeping the scores of participants for each award in an accurate manner and reporting scoring online in transparent fashion and 0ther duties as they arise
      * Skills gained: accounting and budget management experience.
      * Any committed student with basic accounting and excel program knowledge preferred.

 

    1. Volunteer/HR  Recruiting Coordinator: responsible for but not limited to recruiting specific volunteers for the event days based on skill level needed; allocating human resources and scheduling breaks for volunteers/ coordinating staffing needs as they arise; communicates accurate information to volunteers of specific tasks and duties; answer questions / solve concerns that raised by volunteers and other duties as they arise.
      * Skills gained: Human resources management experience, formal communication experience, customer service experience and networking skills.
      * Any major, outgoing and committed student with good communication skill preferred

 

    1. Social Media and Marketing Coordinator: responsible for but not limited to promoting multicultural week to students and clubs; designing a banner for all the events and Multicultural week 2012; assisting Public Relation Director to promo events if needed; communicate with Public Relation Director with updated information and other duties as they arise.
      * Skills gained:E-marketing experience, opportunity to meet new people and work together with a large team.

      * Any major committed and hardworking student preferred with demonstrated social-media experience outside of personal-use
      .

 

    1. Parade Coordinator: responsible for but not limited to organizing the  MCW Parade at the first day of Multicultural week, which involves over 50 student clubs; allocating resources to set design and the event; overseeing the execution of the event; coordinating with all clubs and participants for sign in and out; count the amount of participant whom wears costume for each clubs and other duties as they arise
      * Skills gained: Event planning experience and organization  skills as well time management and coordination skills
      * Any major and committed student preferred.

 

    1. Ceremony Coordinator: responsible for but not limited to 0rganizing the opening and closing ceremony, where students will be involved and awards and prizes will be distributed; designing the set for both ceremonies’ preparing awards for multi competition; communicating with guest speaker when needed; overseeing the event during both ceremonies and responsible for reporting any behavior that is disruptive by participants/audience and other duties as they arise
      * Skills gained: formal communication experience, organization skills and event planning experience.
      * Any major, committed students with good communication skill preferred

 

    1. DJ battle Coordinator: responsible for but not limited to organizing and overseeing the event; preparing necessary supplies for the event; setting rules for the DJ battle competition; contacting and finding experienced DJ as judges for the DJ battle competition and other duties as they arise.
      * Skills gained: an opportunity to meet new people, event planning and organization  skill.
      * Any major, committed student is preferred. Appreciation for cultural music and DJ techniques and knowledge required.

 

    1. Food Fair Coordinator: responsible for but not limited to organizing and overseeing the Food Fair; preparing necessary supplies for the event; problem solving during event day and other duties as they arise
      * Skills gained:: event planning experience and organization skills, working with many groups of people and strong hospitality skills gained
      * Any major, hardworking and committed student preferred

 

    1. Dealing Diversity Coordinator: responsible for but not limited to organizing and overseeing the event; an understanding and interest of  values such as diversity, inclusion and multiculturalism; preparing necessary supplies for the event and other duties as they arise
      * Skills gained: Event planning experience and organization skills
      * Any major, hardworking and committed student preferred.

 

    1. Stage show Coordinator: responsible for but not limited to organizing and overseeing  the event; problem solving during the show and preparing how to react to them; coordinating with the MC for the flow of the show; setting the show schedule; coordinating with the participant for required information for their show during event and other duties as they arise
      * Skills gained: Stage performance managing experience, organization skills and event planning skills, troubleshooting and problem solving skills
      * Any major student with theater managing experience and/or stage management knowledge preferred

 

    1. Short Film Festival Coordinator responsible for but not limited to organizing and overseeing the event where students/clubs submit entries for screening; setting guidelines for the short film competition and receive film entries; contacting /recruiting judges for the competition; problem solving during event; convert short films into the same format to view by judges if required; distributing the short films for the judges to view and other duties as they arise.
      * Skills gained: event planning skills, formal communication and organization skills, experience in working in film-festival.
      * Any major and committed student is preferred. Film making and digitizing video knowledge is required

 

    1. Photography Competition Coordinator responsible for but not limited to setting guidelines for the photography competition; organizing and oversee the event; collecting photography entries and setting technical guidelines for submission; setting up an online/offline voting platform for contest and reporting results in a timely fashion prior to closing ceremony; problem solving during the event if required and other duties as they arise.
      * Skills gained: event planning experience and organization as well leadership development.
      * Any major and committed student is preferred. Photography knowledge is required .
